2016 Board of Directors

The UBHAS board consists of 9 members elected from the association shareholders. Each director serves a 3-year term that is staggered, requiring the election of 3 directors every year. There are not term limits. Association officers are elected from the standing board of directors.

The UBHA held a board of directors meeting on December 26, 2015 to fill vacancies created by resignations and expiration of terms. Darcy Hollingsworth decided to step down from the board and Mike Rodgers, Vann Flaherty and Justin Twogood’s terms were up. Mike Rodgers decided to not seek re-election.

The nominated members were:
Justin Twogood (incumbent)
Vann Flaherty (incumbent)
Charlie Thompson
Kenny Andrews
Steve Stone
Guy French
Carl Barrett

The following were elected to serve a 3-year term:
Guy French
Kenny Andrews
Justin Twogood

Carl Barrett was elected to fill the remaining 1-year term created by the resignation of Darcy Hollingsworth.

If you have any questions, please contact any of the new or existing directors and officers. We will try to get you an answer.

Rule Changes for 2016

The U.B.H.A. board of directors held a conference call on January 8, 2016 to review the 2015-point year and amend competition rules to enhance the function of the Association.

For 2016 the association will use a 15 points system rather than the 10-point system for events that have more than 15 entries. A horse will earn points for the total number of horses in the class up to 15, with no more than 10 horses, plus ties, receiving points. If there are 25 horses in a class, the first place horse would receive 15 points, down to 6 points for the 10th place horse. 11-25 would not receive points. If 13 horses are competing the first place horse would receive 10 points down to the last horse which would receive 1 point. The board felt like this system would reward horses that excelled at large events without devaluing the smaller event.

Starting in 2016 the Association will be divided into 3 competition regions for points. Canada will be region 1, the northern U.S. divided by the north border of Colorado, will be region 2 and the southern U.S. will be region 3. An owners address determines the region. A horse can compete in any region and his points stay with him. The top horses (number to be decided) from each region will be invited to the U.B.H.A. finals. Example, a horse from Texas competes in 2 events in North Dakota and 1 in Texas all of his points would be accrued for region 3.

In the completion area the point deduction for a horse falling has been addressed. If a horse falls and his body comes in contact with the ground, he shall receive a 0 (no score). It was felt that if the horse was carrying a rider and the rider received a re-ride due to the horse falling then a dummy colt should receive a zero in the same situation. If a colt has an equipment failure, he shall receive a score reflecting his performance.

In addition to the above changes the requirements to sanction a UBHA event have been adjusted. Beginning immediately the minimum added money for the 2-year-old and 3-year-old classes will be $500.00 with a minimum entry fee of $135.00, which includes the $35.00 sanction fee. The yearling class is still an optional class and can be jackpotted.

If you have any questions, please contact a director in your area. Their names and numbers are listed HERE.
